Institutions of higher education have been committed to the education of students and preparation of leaders offering undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate programs focusing on global and intercultural leadership. However, we wonder if there is a shared commitment to the education and global preparedness of its faculty. What type of experiences and opportunities are provided to support a faculty member in his/her development as globally competent professor? We believe that the transfer of learning in support of global mindset and intercultural competency development is contingent upon the professor’s global mindset and intercultural currency.

It is our shared belief that institutional supports and faculty development opportunities are means to promote the global mindset of the professoriate in order to develop competent global leaders. With this premise as the focus of the discussion, we ask the nagging question that continues to challenge and perplex us: “What role does higher education have in the development and preparation of globally competent leaders?”
