This paper focuses on responding to the area of evaluating content management systems. The primary aim of this research is examine the effects of using a dedicated system for learning, training and knowledge reuse in knowledge intensive firms. The core area explored within the case study was the use of User Productivity Kit (UPK) within a medical device company over a three year period. The organization treated UPK as a dedicated Knowledge Management System (KMS) responsible for the core learning, capture and reuse initiatives within the organization. The “70/20/10” initiative separated learning into formal training, mentoring and on-the-job experience. This paper aims to discuss and highlight some of the issues experienced by this company in using UPK as a dedicated KMS for the standardization of knowledge. The methodological underpinning of the research is as follows. An interpretivist paradigm was followed while using one case study to achieve the research strategy. Some of the methods of data collection included; 14 Interviews; observation; document and record investigation and computer assisted analysis using nVivo.
