The almost absolute dependence of the Venezuelan public university towards the State’s financial resources and decrease of the tendency of such financing, have promoted the search of alternative mechanisms to obtain supplementary income. This paper explores, through documental analysis, the efforts made by the University of Zulia (LUZ) to refocus its revenue-generating policies in order to provide additional financial resources. It was found that the institution faces the problem through the creation of foundations and enterprises, but in absence of a benefit/income ratio capable of increasing its financial sustainability, LUZ has begun a path of transformation guided by its strategic planning, defining innovative programs and projects of which comes the design of a new model of management, and the Universitas Corporation, as support system to the revenue-generating organizations, yet to be materialized.
