Creating Knowledge Map for Research Centers: A Topic Map Based Approach

Knowledge map is an important concept for knowledge management in organizations. Research organizations are more dependent on knowledge management than any other type of organization. In this article, we introduce a new method for creating knowledge map of organizations using topic map. This method is very useful to knowledge creating organizations like research centers. This method is based on creating the organization structure and subject thesaurus in topic map simultaneously. This method provides some capabilities for knowledge management which is needed in research centers. We have used Iran Telecommunication Research Center as a case study.

Mohammad Ali Heydari received his BSc in Computer Engineering-Software from Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan-Iran in 1998 and MSc in Computer Engineering-Software from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran-Iran in 2001. He has worked at Iran Telecommunication Research Center as a researcher since 2002. His research interests include knowledge management, software development methodologies and customer care and billing.

Ali Reza Mansoori

Ali Reza Mansoori received his BSc and MSc in Computer Engineering-Software from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran-Iran in 1993 and 1996 respectively. He has been a faculty member at Iran Telecommunication Research Center since 1999. His research interests include knowledge management, software development Methodologies, and telecommunication network management.
